Those running, or looking at running events in Denmark will need to know about the modern Bella Center, and the adjacent Bella Sky Comwell Hotel, Copenhagen.
The centre is Scandinavia’s largest and was completed in 1975 on what was then a greenfield site at Orestad, conveniently located between Copenhagen city centre and its airport and now linked within ten minutes of both by the nearby Metro. It has a total capacity of 20,000 delegates, with more than 100 meeting rooms and auditoria for all sizes of groups, the largest accommodating 12,000 delegates theatre-style.
Three years ago, in 2011 the centre’s operators opened the ultra-modern Bella Sky Comwell Hotel, Scandiavia’s largest and based on two linked 23-storey towers, where the author stayed for two nights in December for a seminar running at the centre. This offers another 28 meetings rooms, including a very popular and well-stocked Sky Bar for 80, and 812 modern en-suite bedooms where home-comforts for weary business travellers are not forgotten. (All have, unusually, tea and coffee facilities and 82 have baths with showers over.)
Last month the owners of the centre and hotel, BC Hospitality Group, announced that the Bella Sky will become the first Danish hotel to operate under the AC by Marriott brand and will be rebranded as the AC Hotel Bella Sky Copenhagen. In addition they have purchased the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel to add to their portfolio, which also includes the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers.
